Biography

Joanna McKinnon Ward is a Melbourne-based actress known for her emotionally connected, grounded performances and striking versatility across drama, comedy, thriller, and romance. With a dual background in science and the arts, she brings a rare blend of psychological insight, creativity, and specificity to her work. Joanna has trained extensively at 16th Street Actors Studio and under renowned coaches Miranda Harcourt and Nancy Banks. She draws from Meisner, Alexander Technique, and Uta Hagen’s approach to deliver layered, authentic performances and is committed to continuous growth and depth in her craft.
Recent screen credits include lead roles in Lizzie, All My Idols Are America, Sunset, and feature Johanna, as well as producing, directing, and performing in Diamonds, a multidisciplinary music video blending her talents as an actor, dancer, singer, and choreographer. She is one half of the female music duo Luna and a visual artist working in oil, pastel, and drawing. Passionate about telling bold, emotionally resonant stories, Joanna thrives in close creative collaboration and is driven by the challenge of bringing truth to every role.
Alongside her acting career, Joanna continues to work in scientific research and consultancy — a discipline that sharpens her understanding of human behaviour and enriches her storytelling.
