Biography
Joanna McKinnon Ward is a Melbourne-based actor working across film and television. She has led multiple independent short films and appeared in Australian and international productions including Netflix, Stan, Paramount+ and Universal projects.
With a dual background in science and the arts, Joanna brings a rare blend of psychological insight, creativity, and specificity to her work. Known for her professionalism, collaborative approach, and fearless vulnerability, she is drawn to grounded, emotionally complex characters, and to working with like-minded creatives to tell impact-driven stories.
Joanna has trained extensively at 16th Street Actors Studio and under renowned coaches Miranda Harcourt and Nancy Banks. She draws from Meisner, Alexander Technique, and Uta Hagen’s approach to deliver layered, authentic performances and is committed to continuous growth and depth in her craft.
Recent screen credits include lead roles in shorts ‘Viscera’ and ‘Lizzie’; the role of Beth in Stan’s sitcom ‘The Sonny Disposition’; as well as producing, directing, and performing in ‘Diamonds’, a multidisciplinary music video blending her talents as an actor, dancer, singer, and choreographer.
